Prussian Cavalry Sabre, M 1811 pattern, so-called Blücher Sabre
The Blücher Sabre is designed on the model of an English sabre used by the Light Dragoons as from 1796, which was already equipped with a stirrup-shaped hilt, also characteristic for the Prussian evolution of light weapons. The M 1811 sabre is commonly referred to as Blücher Sabre. Generalfeldmarschall Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, whose fellow soldiers nicknamed Marschall Vorwärts or Pascholl after the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig in 1813, was the most popular commander during the German Campaign against Napoleon. In 1826, a statue was erected to his memory by the city of Berlin: His effigy holds the hilt of an M 1811 sabre, lowered towards the ground. This sabre was the standard weapon of the Prussian light cavalry in 1813/14. The Prussian Hussars as well as the Dragoons, the Uhlans and the Gunners of the Horse Artillery were equipped with Blücher Sabres.
The blade of our reproduction of this famous sabre is forged out of high carbon steel, carefully ground and polished. It is not sharpened. Hilt and matching scabbard are also made of steel. The grip itself is leather-wrapped.
Details:
- Overall length: approx. 100 cm
- Blade length: approx. 85 cm
- Including matching steel scabbard
- Weight without scabbard: approx. 1.05 kg
