Nagi Gatana, BattleBlades
Meet BattleBlades' heaviest and toughest chopping weapon, a wild hybrid: the Nagi-Gatana. The magnificent weapon known as the Naginata is an iconic pole arm with a devastatingly effective curved, single-edged blade. It was carried by samurais and ashigarus in feudal Japan. Although it shares many similar elements with traditional katanas, the naginata has a longer range and its sheer cutting power is astonishing. BattleBlades has combined the best elements of both weapons to create a two-handed sword with the curvature of a naginata sword and the elegance of a katana, the Nagi-Gatana.
The elegance of the hand-forged Nagi-Gatana sword
Combining the elegance and unique beauty of the fine traditional Japanese katana with the range of motion and raw power of the naginata wasn't easy to accomplish. The nagasa is slightly shorter compared to usual katana blades, but has a wider motohaba and a broader blade tip. Its tsuka is shorter than that of a naginata, but the blade is wider than that of a katana. The curved blade provides a long cutting surface without increasing the overall length of the weapon. The nagi-gatana is quite heavy, yet swift to use and well balanced, as the unokubi-zukuri shape reduces the heaviness of the blade. The weight combined with the curved blade ensures maximum cutting power. It is forged from T10 steel and embellished with our aggressive visible real clay hardened hamon and double Bo-Hi.
The extra long tsuka, inspired by the Naginata, was designed not only to balance the weapon but also to provide maximum torque when cutting. The tsuka has genuine Samegawa rayskin under the Hinerimaki wrapped silk ito and is embellished with iron fuchi and kashira as well as a brass tsuba. Custom-made brass habaki and Naginata Menuki add the finishing touch to this outstanding Koshirae. BattleBlades guarantees you will be thrilled by the quick and effortless handling and centre of balance of the Nagi-Gatana.
The making of a special sword requires a special scabbard. Nagi-Gatana's fully custom-made, classy hardwood saya is paired with a gold-dotted black silk Sageo and buffalo horn Kurigata and Koiguchi. The layer of light brown wood stain adds a touch of luxury to the saya. Each stunning Saya has been handmade to fit its sword perfectly, meaning that no other sword, not even another Nagi-Gatana from BattleBlades, would fit this Saya.
The sword comes with an embroidered BattleBlades silk sword bag and a serial numbered certificate.
