In the pantheon of Norse deities, Baldur was the son of Odin and Frigg (i.e. a brother of Thor and Loki) and as such was destined to reign after Odin. Beloved by all the gods but Loki, Baldur is known to bestow joy to all those who spend time with him. In Old Norse poetry, Baldur's death is described as a tragedy and a harbinger of Ragnarök.

In honour of the lesser known sibling, this classic Viking sword was designed as a tribute to the fairest member of Asgard. The leather grip of this sword is laser engraved with the three runes that Windlass believes best fit the Norse god. Some scholars believe that the name Baldur means "bold", which is why the rune of courage was added. In her attempt to protect Baldur from harm, Frigg asked all things to swear never to harm him (except mistletoe), so the rune of protection was also added. Finally, Baldur was also known for always being prepared for battle, and so the rune of strength completes the arrangement.

The blade is etched with runes that can be roughly translated as the spelling of "Baldur". The leather sheath (with integrated belt) is covered with a layer of black suede, which is adorned with chape and throat of high-quality leather. A Viking symbol for the sun is depicted on chape and throat, as Baldur was known to all who knew him as a shining light.
