Roman Capsa, Leather Scroll Holder with 3 Scrolls
Before there were books as we know them today, people used scrolls to write down their stories and tales. Papyrus scrolls originated in ancient Egypt, from where they spread to ancient Greece and Rome. The scrolls, which were usually several hundred meters long, contained a lot of important information.
In order to protect the delicate scrolls from external influences, they were stored in baskets, jars, pots or the capsa.
The capsa is a bag or case developed by the Romans, in which several scrolls could be transported at once. It was usually a large, cylindrical container made of leather or wood, which was closed with a lid and could be worn comfortably across the body thanks to a strap.
The capsa offered here is made of two differently coloured types of leather, and is securely closed with a lid. The long, adjustable strap can be used either as a belt to carry the scroll container on the hip, or as a shoulder strap.
Our capsa not only looks great, it also contains 3 matching scrolls that are just waiting to be inscribed by you. Two wooden sticks are attached to each of the scrolls so that you can unroll them easily. When not in use, the scroll is held together by a leather strap.
Suitable for a scholar, his apprentice or any other LARP character who doesn´t want to go on an adventure without his important documents or conjurations, curses or spells. This holder is also of good use for a bard to safely store his lyrics.
Details:
- Material: leather
- Width: approx. 8 cm
- Height: approx. 27.5 cm
- Weight with scrolls: approx. 620 g
- Weight without scrolls: approx. 400 g
Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.
Please keep in mind that leather is a natural product, and variations in colour and grain are quite normal. Each item is thus unique, and above pictures are for reference only.
