Late Medieval Stone Bow, Bullet-Shooting Crossbow
Deluxe Version, Wood and Brass, with flaws

This decorative reconstruction of a so-called bullet-shooting crossbow from the late Middle Ages / Renaissance, commonly referred to as a stone bow, has a leather-bound wooden prod fitted onto a wooden stock. The locking mechanism, trigger and all other fittings are crafted from brass. This material and the embellishments gracing the lock and the fork (fore-sight) give this deluxe version a nobler appearance more befitting of the higher walks of life.
Primarily designed for the hunt, this lighter, portable offshoot of the crossbow was easier to handle and shot small ammunition such as clay pellets, stones (hence the name) and, later on, lead bullets instead of crossbow bolts. It was thus ideal for hunting birds and small game. The stone bow was spanned by pulling the double string back with both hands and hooking the back of the bullet pouch onto the trigger hook. A simple pull of the trigger was then sufficient to release the hook and propel the projectile placed in the pouch beforehand.
Details:
- Material: wood and brass
- Overall length: approx. 100 cm
- Prod width: approx. 80 cm
- Weight: approx. 1.35 kg

The present stone bow is a decoration item This crossbow is neither suitable for shooting training nor for practical use on the reenactment battlefield, and is exclusively designed as a nice addition to a historical weapons collection, as an ornamental / display item or as a medieval accessory. In any case, it is not a toy and should be handled by adults only.
