Viking Tent without frame, 2 x 2.3 x 1.8 m, 350 gsm, natural colour

Viking tents have many advantages over other medieval tents: They are sturdy and have a stable construction, which allows one to camp even on harder grounds as pegs are not absolutely necessary. What's more, you can give free rein to your creativity in the design of your frame.

The well-known models are based on the finds in Oseberg and Gokstad, which, however, were not fully preserved and are therefore partially reconstructed based on educated assumptions.

Nothing precise can be said about the actual use of these tents at the time. It is not entirely clear whether they were really used outdoors or only for the Althing. Another theory suggests that they were market tents. "Krämer" (German for "monger" or "shopkeeper") was formed from the Old High German cram which means "tent". Accordingly, they may have been used as market stalls in natural ports.

Since the size of the original finds would be a logistical challenge for most of us, we made our tents a bit smaller and therefore more manageable.
The Viking tent with the dimensions 3.0 x 2.7 x 2 m offers enough space for up to three occupants with their respective gear, while the smaller version with the dimensions 2.0 x 2.3 x 1.8 m offers space for two people.

Please note that the tent is delivered without a frame!

Our tents and tarpaulins have already been waterproofed. In order to maintain / restore the water repellency of your tent or tarp and enjoy its use for a long time, we recommend regular treatment with a waterproofing spray, for example PLUVONIN.

Details:
- Dimensions: approx. 2 x 2.3 x 1.8 m
- Weight: approx. 8 kg

Scope of delivery:
The Viking tent consists of the tent skin only, including the fastening and closing loops.

Colours and material:
- natural colour (350 gsm)

All measurements are approximate and may differ from the actual product supplied. The tents are crafted by hand, which lends them an authentic appearance on the one hand, but may also result in one or two small defects on the other hand. Cotton is a natural material that reacts differently depending on the various outside conditions and can considerably shrink or expand. Please do not try to stretch the tent skin by force, as it increases the risk of the canvas tearing or the stitches snapping.

Important information on assembly, handling and maintenance of our historical tents:

You can prolong the life of your Viking tent, Roman tent, Saxon tent, Knights tent, medieval tent, trade tent or medieval market stall and enjoy its use for a further long time by observing the following precautions:

Do not overstretch the ropes, for natural materials such as wood or cotton alter under the influence of air humidity and need space to contract and expand. You may thus avoid e.g. that the roof holes for the poles get distended and ultimately facilitate water ingress. We recommend slightly slackening the ropes in the evening, for air humidity considerably rises at night and may increase the risk of excessive stress exerted on your tent. The ropes should also be somewhat slackened in rain or high atmospheric humidity. If the tent has been exposed to humidity, we strongly advise you to dry it after use, as it is otherwise likely to mould. Do not, on any account, use detergents or any other cleaning products to clean your tent. The best way to remove dried out dirt is to use a brush. As for the storage of your tent over an extended period of time, please separate all accessories (pegs, ropes, etc.) from the tent itself and preferably pack everything separately. Make sure that all items are dry and stored in a dry place.

Do you have any further questions concerning the setting up or proper use of your tent? Please don't hesitate to write or call, we'll be pleased to assist!
