Step into the world of the Vikings with our woollen hood Eske – an essential accessory for authentic Viking clothing. Inspired by the historical find from Skjoldehamn and crafted with great attention to detail, this Viking Hood combines historical design with modern craftsmanship.
The hood is made from 100% high-quality wool in a diamond twill weave. The small, typical pattern of offset lozenges is created by using light and dark brown wool in the warp and weft. The fine embroidery on the hem emphasises its historical character and gives it an elegant look.
The shape and construction are based on the Skjoldehamn hood, a famous archaeological find dated between the 10th and 12th centuries. Characteristic features such as the pointed hem with an inset square piece on the chest have been incorporated in this reconstruction.
The gugel is worn like a separate hood and covers the head, neck, and shoulders. Thanks to its wide hood and generous shoulder sections, it fits comfortably and offers reliable protection against wind and weather. A practical tie at the back of the head allows for flexible adjustment: when tied at the front, it holds the hood securely in place during stormy weather, while when tied at the back, it lets you regulate the hood’s width individually.
Although the hood doesn’t originate directly from the Viking age, it has become a popular addition to Viking attire for both men and women. But it is also a fitting addition to garments from the Early and High Middle Ages.
