The Viking Blod mead owes its name to its distinctive reddish colour, which comes from the addition of hibiscus. Besides giving the mead its unique colour, the hibiscus, combined with ginger and other spices, creates an aromatic, spicy and floral taste.
Dansk Mjød’s honey wines are based on old, traditional recipes with the addition of juices and herbs. Another special feature of many meads is that the fermentation is stopped by adding alcohol. This gives the mead an unusual strength, which is tempered by its residual sweetness, resulting in a liqueur-like smoothness and balance.
