Medieval Velvet Jacket Griselda, black
Our elaborately crafted velvet jacket has a close-fitting cut and is lined with light cotton fabric. All seams are reinforced with cotton ribbon and the added bottom hem has multiple slits for a snug fit that is particularly flattering to the hips.
The jacket features numerous laces (at the center front, the side seams, the crook of the arm and the shoulders) that allow for an individual, custom-fit adjustment to the body. The sleeves are fully detachable – just untie the top cords and the jacket transforms into a bodice or corsage. We recommend opening the centre front lacing only, so you can just slip in and re-thread the laces to close.
Owing to its design and cut, this jacket can be historically assigned to the late Middle Ages. It pairs equally well with a dress or with a flared skirt and blouse.
In regard to the fabric, it can be added that velvet took its rise in the 14th century Mediterranean and was predominantly woven in Italy. Velvet garments were luxury items, not only due to the complexity of the craftsmanship involved in producing them, but also to the fact that the fabric was originally made out of silk. Velvet was a very popular textile in Burgundian fashion during the Renaissance period.
Details:
- Available sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
- Colour: black (also available: green)
- Material: 100% cotton
- Length overall size M: approx. 53 cm (measured from the highest shoulder point down to the bottom hem)
- Care instructions:
Cotton velvet should not be machine washed to prevent irreversible creasing. Ironing should also be avoided at all costs, as to do so will crush the pile. To remove light stains, we recommend using a clothes brush to gently brush the stained area in the direction of the nap. For larger stains, it is advisable to have the jacket dry-cleaned by a professional.
