In ancient Rome the arm guard (called a Manica) was used, primarily by gladiators and also the Roman military. They ran from shoulder to hand and were originally articulated by mounting on organic substances (such as linen or leather). Later chain pieces as well as steel plates were also used.
This replica of a manica consists of brass plates that have been riveted together. It has a protective plate for the hand and a leather underside, which is attached to the brass plates with leather cords. The manica is attached to the arm using leather straps and brass buckles.
At the shoulder end there are also two rings for attachment
