Cold Steel® Man at Arms (MAA) Swiss Halberd
The medieval man-at-arms was a stalwart and dependable fighter who exhibited great martial prowess with a range of weapons. He was the veteran of many conflicts and was often first into the fray. To honor these rugged, salt-of-the-earth warriors, Cold Steel® has created a range of true journeyman's weapons called the Man at Arms Collection. These battle-ready weapons may lack the polished silver steelwork of Cold Steel®'s high-end weapons, but they are quite similar in quality and performance. And when well-oiled, they are gleamingly beautiful in their own right. The Man at Arms collection features a selection of some of Cold Steel®'s finest products, but at a markedly reduced price. If you always wanted a Cold Steel® piece but couldn't afford one, this collection is made for you.
The Swiss have a reputation as a nation of riflemen. This is mostly due to the fact that military-aged men are required by law to store their army-issued personal weapon at home and are allowed to keep it - with a proper license - after their period of service in the militia has ended. This, however, is a relatively recent development. For three hundred years, starting in the 12th century, the Swiss were widely feared for the terrible havoc they could wreak upon the battlefield with their infamous halberds: The Swiss voulge effectively combined the finest attributes of the spear, battle axe and hook into one devastating weapon. It was able to pierce the thickest steel armor and shatter a sturdy helmet or shield. The halbard's 'beak' could also be used to drag a heavily armored knight from his mount to be slain by the wielder's brothers in arms.
The Cold Steel® Swiss Halberd we offer here is almost identical to its heavy-duty historical counterpart, except that it is made from modern materials. Featuring a fully sharpened spike, axe blade and beak (hook), it is a multi-faceted weapon that even make short work of a heavily armed and armored opponent.
