Hereby we offer a high-quality recontruction of a roman scale armour, a Lorica Squamata.
This typical armour of the imperial roman cavalry consists of many small brass plates, similar to fish scales, which are sewn on a vest of solid canvas and leather and interwoven with wire at the longitudinal sides. This construction pattern should prevent the opponent's blades from piercing through between the metal plates. Shape, size and also the material of the scales were very different. At Carnuntum, the capital of the roman province Pannonia, more than 30 different forms and types of this kind of armour have been found. Our scale armour is the short-cut version, which was used from about 100 to 250 AD.
The Lorica Squamata is laced with leather straps on the side and on the neck collar.
Details:
- Material: brass plates, approx. 35 mm x 25 mm x 0,3 mm, sewn on with vegetable tanned leather
- Circumference of chest: approx. 115 to 125 cm
- Length overall: approx. 60 cm
- Weight: approx. 6 kg
