The old North Frisian cry of defiance Lever dood as slaav (Better dead than slave) is known far beyond Northern Germany'sborders. It stands for the rebelliousness of the Frisians, who once fought off foreign domination.
We beer lovers thought to ourselves, well, death is something anyone eventually has to face, but rather than being slaves, we like being duun, which is the Low German word for drunk.
