Itzehoa 1657 "De groote Brand", Herbal Spirit, 57% alc/vol, 0.5l Bottle - Holsteiner Geister
In the year of 1657
For many years, Itzehoe was able to grow and flourish peacefully and was mostly spared from wars. But during the First Northern War, the fortified city was attacked by Swedish troops and set ablaze. Almost the entire city fell victim to the flames, with only the Gothic cloister of the St. Laurentii Church able to withstand the inferno and the ravages of time to this day. After the fire, Itzehoe was cleaned up and rebuilt. The new town was built in one of the meanders of the Stör river (Störschleife).
This aromatic, slightly spicy herbal schnapps is reminiscent of the great city fire that changed and renewed Itzehoe so radically. It burns on the palate, the flames spread down the throat and finally reach the belly, where the great fire (De groote Brand) goes out, making space for something new.
