Fenrir, the Norse Wolf
This generously sized mug / tankard with handle is hand-crafted from cattle horn, polished, and adorned with an engraved motif of the wolf Fenrir (also Fenris or Fenrisúlfr).
In Germanic mythology, Fenrir, son of the malicious god Loki and the giantess Angrboda and one of the world’s tormentors, fights the existing order and ultimately embodies the annihilation of the world. The gods recognize his dangerousness, chain him to a rock with a ruse, and sink him deep into the bottom of the earth. The wolf is shackled for a long time, until eventually, at the twilight of the gods, he breaks his chains and devours Odin. Odin's son Widar kills Fenrir, but it is too late, the Allfather of the Gods falls and, with him, the order of the world.
The rustic, highly decorative drinking vessel we offer here is not only ideal for re-enactment purposes, but also for everyday use. Whether in a medieval setting or in a modern home, it will make for a true eye-catcher on any dining table.
For hygienic reasons, the drinking cup is sealed on the inside with a food-safe varnish so that you may enjoy your favourite beer (or mead) to the fullest.
A great gift idea for modern-day Vikings!
