Gothic Longsword / Late Medieval Bastard Sword with Scabbard, Practical Blunt, SK-B

Flawed, discounted item! Because of faulty construction, which results in unstable, slightly crooked pommels and sharp metal parts, we've reduced the price of this item by 50 %. Instead of the regular EUR 149,95, now only EUR 74,99! Considering these flaws, the swords offered here are NOT suited for combat reenactment, but can be repaired easily with a little bit of craftmanship.

Please note that discounted products that are expressly mentioned as flawed items are non-returnable.

This good value one-and-a-half-handed sword (also called bastard sword) is a classic example of a cut-and-thrust long sword of the European late Middle Ages. Although not a one-to one replica of an original historical piece, it features the typical characteristics of a traditional late medieval longsword and is patterned after the arming swords wielded by 15th century Gothic knights in full suit of armour. Such weapons of war were unable to pierce or cut through plate armour but were particularly effective when it came to stab one's way into the unprotected, vulnerable gaps and joints in the opponent's plate protection and penetrate chainmail and padded garments.

The long, double-edged blade of the medieval sword we offer here is forged out of hardened and tempered EN45 spring steel. It has a flattened diamond cross-section and gently tapers towards the tip. The thick edges are not sharpened, the tip is rounded off and the blade's full tang is screwed to the pommel.

The cruciform hilt sports a wide cross guard and a generously sized wheel pommel, both made of steel. The 21 cm long, 0.6 cm thick guard features slightly flared quillons with rectangular and trefoil-shaped cut-outs. The visually striking handle is composed of a wooden core with leather-and-steel overlay: While the first half adjacent to the guard is bound in black leather (with X-shaped ribs, or risers underneath), the remainder of the grip is wrapped with twisted steel wire.

This late medieval hand-and-a-half knightly sword comes complete with a black wood-and-leather scabbard with steel throat, chape, middle band and articulated suspension rings. The open three-lobed clover leaf / trefoil motif adorning the pierced guard (a typical ornamental and architectural element of the Gothic era) is repeated on all the sheath's fittings.

This is the battle ready version of the Gothic Longsword (Please read the above description of flaws!). The blade's blunt, 1.5 mm / 2 mm thick edges and rounded tip make this sword ideal for light combat reenactment, stage fighting or sparring.
The same sword is also available as a regular, decorative version with thinner (unsharpened) edges and pointed tip (Product No. 0116337018).
