Early Medieval Toggle Shoes, Jorvik Style
These ankle boots are based on archaeological finds in the northern English city of York, the former Jorvik . They are dated between the 9th and 10th century AD, a period in which England was divided into several smaller kingdoms. The Anglo-Saxon people had to fend off innumerable Viking raids. Many Vikings settled in England. York also was conquered by the Danes and controlled by the Norsemen for about a hundred years.
As these shoes match time and place perfectly, of course you can call them Viking shoes. The ankle boots have a very characteristic closure: two rolled leather toggle buttons, which can easily be replaced by bone or horn toggles.
The shoes are available in various sizes. These are standard European ones, but the shape of the shoes is quite narrow, especially at the toes. If you happen to have wider feet or just prefer somewhat roomier shoes, we recommend that you go up a size.
Details:
Material - Vegetable tanned leather (cowhide)
- Sturdy upper leather (approx. 2 mm thick)
- Nailed leather sole, approx. 6 mm thick
- Colour: dark brown
- Available sizes: 40 to 47
This is an original ULFBERTH® product.
