The seax was a single-edged knife of Germanic origin, used both as an everyday utility tool and as a weapon. Seaxes came in various forms, ranging from the compact short seax to the larger long seax, which was typically worn horizontally on the belt in its sheath. From the 5th to the 10th century, the seax was one of the defining blades of the Germanic world and was worn and used by Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, and other Germanic peoples alike.
The Viking seax features a long blade forged from EN45 spring steel with a thick spine and sharply tapered point. The cutting edge is unsharpened, and the full tang is screwed to the pommel.
The handle is made of bone and decorated with an ornate linear pattern that emphasises the authentic character of the seax. The collar and butt cap are both made of steel, complementing the simple yet functional design of this early medieval weapon.
The seax is supplied with a sturdy wooden scabbard covered in brown leather. Decorative braided embossing, brass fittings, suspension rings and bone accents complete the scabbard’s authentic historical appearance.

The steel used here is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain the blade on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
Please keep in mind that bone is a natural product and variations in colour and grain are quite normal.
