Cow-mouth shoes
The Cow-mouth shoe came up in the early 16th century and was worn by both men and women.During the time this type of shoes became a typical part of the clothing of the Landsknechts. The shoes shape is characterized by a flat body and a wide tip, and is decorated with elliptical recesses similar to the slotted clothing the Landsknechts are known for.A strap with a buckle across the instep serves as a closure. The sole has been fixed by stable nails. Please note:
The robustness of shoes according to historical patterns may not meet the modern requirements! They are quite sensitive to asphalt, concrete stones and gravel. These floor coverings did not exist in the Middle Ages! We therefore recommend wearing pattens (medieval wooden overshoes), insoles or to retrofit them with rubbersoles at the shoemaker of your choice.
