Caesarean Helm, Roman Helmet, 1.2 mm brass
This handsome Roman helmet, classified as a Coolus-Mannheim type helmet, is a replica of a mid-1st century BC (ca. 50 BC) helmet found in Vieille-Toulouse, France. The original, remarkably well-preserved bronze artefact is on display for people to admire at the Musée Saint-Raymond in Toulouse, France.
This type of helmet, believed to have been worn by the Roman soldiers who served in Caesar's legions during the Gallic Wars (ca. 58-50 BC), usually consisted of a fairly plain bowl and a short, sometimes barely hinted neck guard.
This reconstruction of a Roman legionary coolus is crafted from 1.2 mm (18 gauge) brass. The blackened interior is not lined, but delivery includes a padded arming cap made of cotton that makes the helmet fully wearable. The cheek guards / side rings are made of steel and adorned with a small, circular brass boss or rosette on each side. The cheek pieces, which allow for the helmet to be fitted with a chin strap, are fixed on the inner side of the helmet base with riveted leather straps.

- Material: 1.2 mm brass with steel and brass fittings, 100% cotton cap
- Suitable for head circumference up to approx. 64 cm

- Short distance (ear to ear): approx. 19 cm
