The ends of tie strings or braided cords were often fitted with metal tips, which made it easier to thread them through holes and eyelets.
These tips were made from sheet metal which was cut and hammered into shape, then squeezed shut or riveted.
Historically, the string ends we offer here may be placed in the late Middle Ages.
