This cap is made of sturdy cotton fabric with a woven herringbone pattern and a colour contrasting brim made of canvas. The inside of the cap is lined with a light cotton fabric.
Throughout the Middle Ages, headdresses were very common for both men and women. However, caps of this type were only worn by men. They existed both in a plain version and with a fur trim. Evidence for this particular cut is confirmed by finds from the archaeological sites of Hedeby and Birka.
