Especially in the Middle Ages, jars were a popular way of storing food or similar items. They came in many different variations. One of them is this jug made of birch wood with a hinged lid. Its handles are glued on and the partially preserved birch bark gives it a quaint look.
Any medieval setting can be made more authentic with it and it is a real asset for LARP or historical re-enactment. It can also inspire in modern everyday life. For example, as a real eye-catcher on the dining table.
Details:
- Material: untreated birch wood
- Dimensions (incl. handles): approx. 17 x 14 cm
- Inner diameter: approx. 5.6 cm
- Height: approx. 17 cm (depth approx. 12 cm)
- Weight: approx. 420 g
The mug is not calibrated and thus exclusively intended for private use.
Please note that specs will vary from piece to piece and above pictures are for reference only. As wood is a natural product, variations in colour and grain are quite normal. Each wooden mug is therefore a one of a kind piece with its own characteristics and patterns.
Care instructions
To ensure that you enjoy this item for a long time, please note the following: The beer stein is not suitable for filling with hot drinks. Before using it for the first time, you should wipe the inside and outside of the beer stein with a damp cloth and allow it to dry. Afterwards, the beer stein should be rubbed with vegetable oil (tasteless) or paraffin oil (medicinal white oil, paraffinum (per)liquidum) at a temperature of approx. 60 degrees. Then let the wooden mug dry and let the oil soak in for at least 10 hours. Afterwards, the excess oil can be rubbed off. Repeat this procedure twice, always making sure that no large amount of oil collects at the bottom. In the future, repeat this treatment regularly after about3 uses 1x. After each use, rinse the container with lukewarm water and leave it to dry at room temperature with the opening facing downwards. Wood is a natural material and can crack under extreme conditions. For this reason, do not leave the jug in water for a long time and do not place it in the sun or near heat sources such as heaters.Manufacturer: Battle-Merchant Wacken GmbH & Co.
