Are you looking for a high-quality, affordable medieval helmet? Would you like to treat yourself to a piece of history? Then you’ve come to the right place! Here we offer a sturdy, hand-made medieval helmet that is not only easy on the eye, but also on the wallet.

The kettle hat or war hat owes its name to its resemblance to a cooking pot (originally called a kettle). This rather plain helmet in the shape of a brimmed hat came into fashion in the 13th century and enjoyed great popularity all over Europe until into the 15th century.
Although kettle hats existed in many variations, they all shared the same characteristic feature: a wide brim that offered protection against downward sword blows and projectiles shot or dropped from above, without impairing the wearer’s sight, hearing or breathing.

There are numerous illustrations of kettle hats. For example, a soldier wearing a kettle hat with cheek guards is depicted in the Codex Hardenbergianus, a splendidly illuminated manuscript from around the mid-14th century, which can now be admired in the National Library of Norway in Oslo.

This authentic reconstruction of a late medieval kettle hat from the 14th c. is handcrafted from approx. 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel. It consists of a rounded helmet bowl, overlapping, riveted strips or bands (in German so-called Spangen) running around the lower edge, from front to back and from ear to ear, as well as an approx. 6.5 cm wide brim with a rolled edge and two articulated cheek guards.

The interior is blackened for better corrosion resistance and fitted with a riveted suspension liner made of black leather. The adjustable, pre-punched chin strap made of supple black leather allows for a custom fit. It is riveted to the cheek guards and closes with a leather tie.

Suitable for light combat re-enactment, LARP, stage or TV/film, this fully wearable helmet is most fitting for settings of the late Middle Ages and ideal to complete the armour of a European warrior. Of course, it will also make a great addition to any helmet collector’s treasure chamber.

Prime quality at a top price – with such a great value for money, there’s just no need to hesitate! Order this first-class, good value helmet now and see for yourself!

The steel used here is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain helmets on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.

Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.
