This fully battle-ready reconstruction of a late medieval great helm or great helmet (also called heaume, pot helm orbucket helm) was modeled after an original piece believed to have been worn during jousts and tournaments by Edward ofWoodstock, Prince of Wales, known as The Black Prince.
Great helms were often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (e.g. a cervelliere / secret helmet) and were common throughout Europein the Middle Ages. Numerous historical illustrations, miniatures and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland,Austria, etc. bear testimony to the popularity of this type of helmet at the time. These helms saw service in many great battles,among others in Crécy (1346) and Poitiers (1356).
The helmet we offer here is equipped with a very comfortable padded liner.

Robin with the 2 mm Black Prince Great Helmet from Battle Merchant during a buhurt (melee) at the Battle of the Nations 2015 inPrague. Robin added a chin strap (required) and drilled more breathing holes. Robin has also tested other helms but with stickwith this one.
